Native Dynamics 365 Business Central

Automatically add
shipping charges
to every BC order.

MetaShip Auto Billing fetches live carrier rates, applies your configured mark-up, and adds the shipping charge line to sales quotes and orders — without a single manual entry.

Why It Matters

Manual shipping billing
is costing you margin.

Every order processed without automation is an opportunity for missed charges, inconsistent mark-up, and reconciliation delays that eat directly into your bottom line.

Missed charges erode margin

Charges not added at quote stage are forgotten by invoice — lost margin that can never be recovered.

Inconsistent mark-up across orders

Different processors apply different rates. Inconsistency means unpredictable margins and customer disputes.

Manual lookup slows every order cycle

Rate lookup, calculation, and manual entry adds minutes per order — multiplied across daily volume, it becomes hours.

Quote-to-order re-entry creates risk

Re-entering shipping charges at the order stage is a second chance for error — amounts get changed, dropped, or mismatched.

Shipping charge auto-added to quote with mark-up — ready for Make Order

Core Features

Built for real shipping billing workflows.

Every feature your operations team needs – from rate fetch to third party billing – native inside Business Central.

Real-Time Rates

Every carrier, side by side

Live carrier rates, delivery dates, and totals in one comparison screen. Select a row and MetaShip does the rest.

  • UPS, FedEx, USPS & more
  • Estimated delivery date per service
  • Selection auto-fills the charge
Auto Mark-Up

Set once. Applied on every order.

Configure your mark-up percentage once in MetaShip Setup. Every charge is calculated and confirmed before any line is written.

  • One-time setup, global application
  • Confirmation pop-up before commit
  • Charge type and amount auto-resolved
Quote to Order

Charge carries through — no re-entry

The shipping charge and mark-up follow the quote through Make Order automatically. No re-entry at any stage of the cycle.

  • Zero re-entry on conversion
  • Mark-up preserved end to end
  • Itemised on order and invoice
Inbound Billing

Both legs on a single quote

Run outbound and inbound estimates separately on one quote. Each direction gets its own charge line and independent mark-up.

  • Separate lines per direction
  • Independent mark-up each leg
  • Designed for rental workflows
Billing Types

Standard or third-party, per order

Standard billing charges through your invoice with mark-up. Third-party routes directly to the customer’s carrier account. Switchable per order.

  • Standard: mark-up on your invoice
  • Third-party: customer account billed
  • Mix both in the same environment
Native BC Integration

100% inside Business Central

Auto Billing runs entirely within BC — no middleware, no external apps. Triggered from the standard menu, posting to native BC records.

  • Triggered from BC Home menu
  • Posts to BC sales quote and order
  • No connectors or sync required
Enterprise Capabilities

Built for scale.
Ready for complex operations.

MetaShip Auto Billing is architected for organisations that need consistent shipping billing across teams, environments, and order volumes — not just individual orders.

Architecture & Deployment

A billing layer that scales with your BC environment.

Auto Billing is a native BC extension. It inherits your security model, user roles, and environment config — no second system for IT to manage.

  • Deploys via standard BC extension pipeline
  • Inherits BC user roles — no separate access management
  • Configuration version-controlled with your BC environment
  • Sandbox and production environments supported independently
Multi-Team Support

One config, consistent across every team

Mark-up rules and carrier config are set at the environment level. Every user and warehouse applies the same policy — no drift.

Performance at Volume

No degradation at high order throughput

Rate fetching and charge creation are synchronous BC operations. No queues or batch windows — performance scales with your BC instance.

Governance & Flexibility

Per-order flexibility, uniform policy enforcement

Billing type is decided per order, not globally. Teams adapt to each customer while mark-up rules and audit requirements are enforced uniformly.

Operational Detail

What happens under the hood, at every stage.

For technical teams evaluating integration depth — here’s exactly how Auto Billing processes a charge from API call to posted invoice line.

Carrier API call & rate resolution

On rate request, MetaShip constructs a carrier API payload from the BC sales quote — shipment details, package dimensions, and origin/destination. The API response is parsed and returned as a comparison table within BC. No data leaves BC outside of the carrier API call.

Carrier API → Price Comparison

Billing logic & charge calculation

On row selection, MetaShip reads the configured mark-up from MetaShip Setup, applies it to the selected carrier base rate, and resolves the final charge amount. A confirmation pop-up surfaces the base rate, mark-up percentage, and calculated total before any line is written.

Mark-Up Engine → Confirmation

Quote conversion & automation flow

On OK, a G/L account charge line is written directly to the BC sales quote. When Make Order is triggered, BC’s standard quote-to-order conversion carries the line — no MetaShip logic runs again. The charge flows through pick, shipment, and invoice as a native BC order line.

BC Sales Line → Order → Invoice
Customer Proof

Why BC teams choose MetaShip Auto Billing.

We were manually calculating shipping mark-up on every single order. MetaShip Auto Billing eliminated that entirely — the charge line appears automatically, with the right mark-up, every time. We’ve recaptured margin we didn’t even know we were losing.

The rental workflow support was the deciding factor. We dispatch and collect, so we need both outbound and inbound charges on one quote. MetaShip handles that natively — no workarounds, just two charge lines on the same quote.

FAQ

Objections & edge cases,answered.

MetaShip Auto Billing supports UPS, FedEx, USPS, DHL, OnTrac, and other carriers available through MetaShip’s carrier API integrations. All connected carriers appear in the Outbound Price Comparison screen automatically — no extra configuration per carrier required.
No. Mark-up is configured once in MetaShip Setup. It applies automatically to every shipping charge across all quotes and orders — no per-order entry needed.
Yes. When you convert the sales quote to a sales order via Make Order, the shipping charge line — including mark-up — carries over automatically. It appears on the order lines and the invoice with no re-entry at any stage.
Yes — designed specifically for rental item workflows. Run Outbound Price Comparison to add the dispatch charge, then Inbound Price Comparison for the return charge. Both appear as separate line items on the same quote, each with their own carrier rate and mark-up.
No additional setup required. Toggle Third Party Shipping on any sales order, enter the customer’s billing type, carrier account number, country code, and postal code. MetaShip passes those details to the carrier at API shipment creation — charges go directly to the customer’s account.
Yes. Third-party billing is a per-order toggle. You can freely mix standard and third-party billing orders — there is no global mode that affects all orders at once.
